RALLY ALI HISTORY

I have known Ally Mackay for a number of years but the first rally we did together was the Cambrian in 2004 in the 2 dr Version 6 - We had a troubled day in difficult conditions but were lying in 5th place o/a and only some 3 seconds off 3rd so in the last 2 stages we went on a charge. On Penmachno North we went off down a steep bank - rally over. car was unmarked but 2 tow trucks later - getting us out - meant a fair bit of damage to rear subframe etc.

I had spoken to Stuart Newby at TEG Sport a couple of times over the year so I decided to send the car to him to get it sorted properly for the forthcoming season 2005 as I wanted to have a right good go at it before I got too old. He said if I wanted to be on the pace I should sell this car, as is and get into a new N10 - and the rest is history as they say.

I teamed up with my old navigator Graham Law and in 2005 we won the Scottish Championship in GrpN and 3rd o/a in the SRC. I won a shed load of trophies as well as the prize money and Colin & Robbie was with us at the annual dinner & dance.

I did the Malcolm Wilson, Manx, Woodpecker & Bulldog with Ally Mackay and we work very well together so we decided to team up for 2006 - sell my N10 and run the new TEG Sport hire car N12 (which we launched at the Autosport show in the NEC) in both the ANCRO & SRC although I only have the budget for the ANCRO at present.

I won the Malcolm Wilson outright in 1997 in my Mitsubishi Galant VR4 - It was an ex works car. It was built for Hydoki Shinozouzoo and straight out of the box he won the Ivory Coast rally by some 3 minutes - being the only Japanese to have ever won a world championship round. Mitsubishi cut back on their WRC and the car came back to the UK with Ralliart who then went bust !! Steve Hill had hired the car and bought it and various vans, tools, mechanics etc and started up Steve Hill motorsport. Think he ran the car for 2 or 3 seasons before I bought it.

I had a fair bit of success with that car but it was dogged with g/box problems - its days with me ended on The Manx in 1998 when, whilst leading the rally from Jimmy Mcrae by 17 seconds I barrel rolled it, flat in 5th, into oblivion !! My navigator was Dee Addison and we were both bruised but unhurt. I was skint, couldn't afford to fix it and my wife was bending my ear !! My son had started karting so I concentrated on him and he went on to become a double Scottish Champion.

When he turned 16 he lost interest in motorsport, I thought he would come back into it but after a year it was obvious he would not so I sold all the kart stuff and bought the old yellow car off Jimmy in 2004. I was only going to do my local event and have the odd play but realized I was not that far off the pace so moved into the 2 dr.
